Driving in to work this morning in my (95) chim
everything went pear shaped.
As i was going along the battery light came on and
all the guages (except the clock?) died!
A quick look at home revealed 13.8Volts at the battery
(engine running) but nothing obvious. However the
fault did seem to coincide with switching the heater
blower on?

I had (similar) when:

1) The big lead had snapped and dropped off the starter motor
2) The big fuse went

(Not sure whether you have a big fuse on a 95)

I had a poorly alternator on another of my cars. It provided enough power to run the engine OK but as soon as I switched on lights, wipers etc the instruments would dim. Overhauled the alternator and perfect since. Just a suggestion.
What is your battery voltage with the engine off?

About 12.5V with enough juice to spin the
engine quite fast, mind you since yesterday
it's taken longer than usual for the engine to 'catch'

Apart from the charging light coming on I had exactly the same problem. My heater blower was pretty much seized up and this caused the main fuse to the dashboard instruments to blow when I switched it on. I fear that you will need to replace both fuse (easy job) and blower motor (not so easy job) to cure this. Re the ignition light - sorry can't help.

I have a feeling my blower might be knacked, i'll start with
the fuse and work from there.

Checked the fuses,as i suspected the 'heater' fuse (15A) had blown.
Put a new fuse in and the guages work again, battery light has
gone out as well. Of course i now have the problem of finding out why the fuse blew.
Turning the 'blower' to any setting results in a brief burst, then nothing?
I take it -being a TVR-removing the blower motor is a job only
a double jointed masochist would contemplate! LOL

BTW Battery voltage @ idle is 14V, so i think the 'big' fuse is ok
