What's everyone doing?
Me, well I'll put the kids to bed then watch a Movie or Discovery Shed with some beer and crisps. Same as I do most nights.
To be honest you can't do much as you have to buy tickets for even the local pubs so too much forward planning. Bloody Millenium.
Spent a fortune on a babysitter a few years ago and was stuck at a pub that we had tickets for and it was sh!te, but you couldn't leave and go elsewhere unless you were booked in somewhere else. A real pain.
My proper local was charging £40 to get in and for that you got a glass of fizz and a crappy disco.
I'll go out New Year's Day.

Going out on NYE is a complete waste of money IMHO. Really winds me up that local pubs, average places at the best of times, see fit to charge £20+ for entry on what is just another night albeit with party poppers and what not. Staying in with a few select friends & family is the way to see the NY in for me :P)

i always go out as its my birthday. normally buy tickets for £10 on the day to one of the indie clubs in mcr and get pissed before going to a house party.
this yr one of my mates is hiring a club out in london so will be going there.
treat it like a normal night out and its worthwhile. go to a £20-30 clubnight and you'll be disappointed.

Usually I stay at home with the family, watch TV, listen to some good music, and get bladdered on fizzy wine.
This year I've been invited to a fancy dress at a pub. Really don't think I can be arsed, especially as I'll have to either get a taxi home (yeah, that shouldn't be a problem), or more likely, crash on a mate floor. I can think of much better ways of bringing in the new year!

Will probably be with the OH and her family in the frozen wilderness that is Finland...
Last year it looked like WW3 kicked off as everyone buys so many fireworks and then spends the next 45mins setting them off... all the time enjoying champers and other booze.
Must not forget the minus 20 degrees and the clear skies!!

They used to do that in my local 25 years ago, charge a fiver to get into the place we drank most every night of the year, greedy thieving barstewards. Anything to grab some extra coinage!
It was almost always an anticlimax too, same as Xmas eve; too many people, too crowded, too hot, couldn't get to the bar, and no chance of going pub crawling instead as every other pub was playing the same 'admission fee' rip-off game.
But all that was years ago.
Nowadays I usually stay home with the wife and sprog, maybe go for a drive around, laugh at the drunks, look at the lights.
Year before last we drove my hot rod through the town centre at 10pm Xmas eve, couldn't beleive how empty and quiet everywhere was.
Inviting a group of friends to our house (about 9 or 10) Big buffet, several drinks on tap (inc kegs from a micrbrewery) play guitar hero, rock band etc, watch everyone elses fireworks from our garden and finally crash out 3-4am. Then I do a big fry up for everyone the next day!
Maybe the last one as will have a baby next yr, though not convinced that will stop us. One of our mates has already expressed distress at the possible change of tradition (Been doing it for about 6 years now

Take a leaf out of Poledriver's book. He always takes his own poppers out when he goes partying.Making no plans with others this year after two years of let downs.
4 years ago we had he best ever. My best mate, boss, his girlfriend my girl friend - now wife.
We've never managed to get a return to that new year in speite of trying.
Last year we planned going to my best mates to have it with his lass in his local country pub. Turns out when we get there she has different ideas and it's going to be wine, cheese and her mates at his house with no pub. Indeed he was instructed the pub was totally off the agenda.
He's a good mate so I quielty explained to him that wasn't what we came up for. He agreed that the night wasn't going to be as advertised and suggested that our leaving after a polite hour would shame her into realising she couldn't take over his new year.
For years me and my best mate have had new year together in the pub.
So this year - we are invited again but have decided to spend it down the local(s) with random neighbours/mates etc.
