While waiting for my car to be returned at the local dealers I had a nose round a new M3. Noticed a power button down by the gear lever, asked the saleman about it and he had no idea what it did!

Anyway, I assume it is like the m5 button, can anyone confirm, and was it present from launch on the new m3?

The power button on the latest m3 just recalibrates the throttle and doesn't add any more power to the engine.the engine doesn't have 2 states of tune like the m5.the m button on the new m3 can be preset to stiffen up the suspension, tighten up the steering, remap the throttle and make a faster gearchange if so desired.you can also disable traction control all at the same time with just one push of the m button

Thanks - the two salesman told me it worked like my m5 and increased the BHP = impressive product knowledge!

You ain't seen nothing until you've been into an authorised Porsche dealership. Some of those guys need name tags so they know who they are. smile

I too was told this!

They said button "off" = 360 bhp, "on" = 420 bhp.

what a sorry bunch - complete fabrication. Some monkey in our local dealership told me that a 135i was faster to 60 than my E92 M3, needless to say, I just ignored him!

Same here - my salesman knew nothing about anything relevant, not the features of the car (he also thought the power button increased the engine output), nor the way to process a sale. Luckily he is no longer at the dealership.

In general, by the time you have read a road test and a brochure, you know far more about the car than any salesman.
