Selling Jewlery

Hi guys,
I understand that this question is not 100% watch related but it seems the most logical place to ask.
My mother passed away a few years ago now and I have fallen into the trap of keeping her jewelery. It sits in its box and is never brought out or worn by anyone. I would much rather sell this and put the money into a watch that I can wear often and will have the memories attached to that rather than pieces sat in boxes.
Where would be the best place to sell nowadays? Take it into a high street independent jewelers? Auctions?
If it helps at all I am located in Chester and Stratford-Upon-Avon.
