Steering Rack

Just sent my steering rack in for reconditioning only to be told that is not in a serviceable condition. If anyone on here has or knows the whereabouts of a spare rack I'd be grateful for any information.

I see you are fairly local, did you send it away yourelf, or did a garage send it .
I only say that, as Andy at APM, up the road at Liphook to you, got mine refurbised last year for a reasonable fee. If you haven't seen him, he comes highly recommended. However, if it is Andy getting the work done then it must be really really bad as I thought that so long as it wasn't bent through 90degs it could be overhauled.

Harry,You are indeed correct. Following you're recomendation on here I took it up to Andy last week but unfortunately it has come back that there is too much wear in the main body for it to be reconditioned. He is still progressing the search for another unit but I'm also doing some hunting myself as I don't want the car off the road for any longer than necessary. Thanks anyway. Chris

Ah thought that might be the case, not a lot you can do above what you already are. Andy knows a lot of people in the 'game', including the 'right' people at the factory so I don't think you could be in better hands.

The steering rack is a modified chevette one. It might be possible if you could find one to rebuild yours using the main body from the chevette's rack.
