westfield mx5 6'3"
Discussion
Has anyone my height driven a westfield, i read they lowered the seat mounting or the floor a bit to get a bit more space, I wouldn't say I'm fat but not slim either.
I've also got access ot a mx5 donor for nothing, seems a shame to waste it.
I'm not sure how much freedom westfield give you in buying bits and peices, I'd like to do it in several steps, rolling chassis first with all donor bits in and working, then the body work and they the finishing, but they only seem to sell the chassis and bodywork as one lump at £3k and then one other pack for similar money, I'd like to get it in 3 or 4 chunks to spread the cost.
Cheers
Mike

Although I expect you will get answers saying yes, it's ok or no, it isn't, the truth is that people vary. Some tall people have long legs, some have long backs. I work with different kit cars all the time, and I am quite tall too, and I know there is no telling which will be OK and which won't.
There are things you can do to improve the legroom, though. One is to dispense with the seat and make pads for the floor and the rear bulkhead (after the IVA test, of course, or else fit head restraints to the rollover bar) and the other is to shorten the pedals and make sure they ae set as far from you as they can be while still having the required stroke. Smaller steering wheel and raising the steering column can help a lot too.

I tried a westie in my search for a 7esque kit. I ended up with the Quantum Xtreme.
I am 6' 4" and long in the thigh. I had difficulty with my knee hitting the bottom of the steering wheel.
Having seen more cars over the last couple of years, I believe that a westie with lowered floorpans and skeleton type seats will see you comfy.
I would find a local club and see if you can blag a ride.

I'm the same height and went the Xtreme route too. I need to ditch the factory seats to get some more leg room - have you done the same?I am 6' 4" and long in the thigh. I had difficulty with my knee hitting the bottom of the steering wheel.

As has already been said, go to local club and ask for a ride (wrong time of year maybe but phone first).
If you are 6'3" you probably have big feet too? Make sure you take some slim fitting footwear along with you (so you can try out the pedals). Ask to sit in a couple of cars, as there are (at least) 3 different pedal boxes available (hanging/floor mounted).
Do not be scared of seat shells with little or no padding. Once strapped I found it more comfortable, being securely mounted in car, and sitting lower down.
There are always uncompleted projects up for sale, if you do not mind getting engine/gearbox mounts separately.
Nothing to do with me - http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?...
Hope this helps,
