OK, so this car won't win any beauty prizes, so for those of you who are looks sensitive please look away now.

The 135i is quite possibly the best car BMW makes right now, and anyone who is looking to by a BMW M car, please take some some time to consider the 135i. This car is small, has a great chassis, has perfect steering feel, immense pace and is tail happy. There is no more honest car in the BMW range than this right now, without question.

The reason why I posted this is simply to heap praise on an overlooked car, if you want a great sounding, great handling, minimal fuss BMW then buy a used 135i.....I want one, badly.

I'd go as far as to say that it is better than an E92 M3.....no, really, it's a more hardcore, simplistic option IMO.

That is all biggrin

And they are a bargin right now as BMW dealers are giving massive discounts on them.

Had one as a loaner while the Z was in. Apart from taking an age to get the seat in a comfy position I loved it. M steering wheel is a really nice item.

I'm a big fan of it, too... Don't like the 5 Door 1-Series, but the 3 door 130i and Coupé 135i are definitely in my "pick of the range" list... driving

Cue everyone jumping in with how ugly, how much of a cock, etc etc, but as I mentioned earlier to a Focus RS bashing friend, "by all means, comment from the pavement on how much of a cock I look... but it's not you sitting in the car" biggrin

Knock the looks at your peril as this car is better than it looks (2dr coupe).

It's a hardcore little thing that rewards like no other BMW, and will eat all competitors for breakfast. I really do love it. If you're reading this BMW UK, you might have to catch me at the border.....

I must admit that the 1 coupe is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Having spent a bit of time in a 335i I can only imagine that the 135i is one hell of a car. The noise!!! thumbup

I have to agree. And I spoke to someone that has owned many of the M cars including the iconic E30, and even he said the 135i was the best one he had owned...

I actually quite like the looks of the 1 series coupe. Frankly I think it is the best looking car BMW currently make.

The 135i was always going to be a superb pocket rocket, a friend and discussed them as the perfect 2nd hand buy over a year ago, as they would drop like a stone and would offer brilliant value for money at say 2 yrs old.

The only issue with the car was always going to be that it weigh more than it really should have done.

All new volume cars weigh too much. Crash protection & electric everything. It has the corporate BMW look, pretty much.

What else is as good dynamically?

I've always liked them and almost went that (quality) way instead of sticking with RenaultSports latest fiestiest number...however, in 2 years BMW haven't been able to provide a 135 Coupe for me to test....must all be on the Press Garage Fleet ( a few of the mags are currently running them long-term and trying different bits of the new BMW Performance packages ).

Must say, I like the looks although I'd concede they're colour dependant...and they could do with running a few inches lower than it comes out of Munich...

Are they, how much do you think?

Always liked these but £35k seems a bit steep, have you seen the Evo staff car that they are trying to improve to match V8 M3 lap time?

I was astounded by the 123d 2 door coupe, looks better than standard 1 series 0-60 in sub 7 seconds and 54mpg combined, amazing

Is the chassis different to the 3 door hatch? I wonder why BMW did not offer it in the practical hatch version like the LE 130i.

Interesting you mention perfect steering feel - Sabine Schmitz said it was terrible!

I've become a big 1-series convert since picking up my 123d M-Sport. It's unequivocally the best car I've had. As someone else mentioned, 60 in 6.7, brilliant chassis and amazing handling. I got the 3dr as I needed to be able to have a shot at getting my drum kit in it, but otherwise I'd have had the coupé. In M-Sport trim, I think it really looks good!

I think that someone got 400bhp with the smallest amount of fiddling with the engine management (could be wrong), I wonder how much power can be produced safely from this engine without too much expense?
