Hi, further to previous posts regarding my gearbox fault, I've been trying to source a replacement. Is anyone able to tell me if there is a difference between the 3.2 litre and 4.0 litre gearboxes on a 2001 XJ??

The 3.2 has a lower torque capacity due to having fewer clutch plates on certain clutches.

It also has a higher K factor converter.

You could fit a 4.0L gearbox into a 3.2 and allow it to adapt, but not the other way round.
