Help with pasting in GIMP

I've been using GIMP for a while, itsallowing me to learn the basics stuff that Im about reay for, but today something odd happened...

I've copied a section from one image and I have pasted it into another image, but instead of seeing teh bit that I've pasted it appears as a tiny dot.

Any ideas?

Im copying a section 200x229 and pasting into an image 450x400

If I do a "paste as new layer" it says that the layer is 1x1 ??

Do you have the right layer selected on the first image?
You may be copying blank space.
