My car is up for it's anual service and it got me thinking about how much I've used the car over the last 12 months, just 2,000 miles!! What am I doing, I need to get out more and start enjoying the car again. It's a good job I've got a road trip booked to the Monaco gp next year.

TBH that's the main reason why I didn't go for a diesel commuter and keep the Elise for weekends when my circumstances changed recently. I just wouldn't get the time.

These days (with family) I need to get my fix during the week, which means making the commute more enjoyable, hence the ditching of the practical alternative to 350mile weekly commute in a diesel burner with a weekend toy to an impractical (but thoroughly enjoyable) Stuttgart born one.

Know what you mean. My car's done 7k in 2 years and 5.5k of that was year 1. Much of my motoring is on the sort of roads / traffic where the Lotus is a waste and a lot requires luggage space.

Odd thing is that I always used to go out and ride my bikes just for the sake of riding them, but I almost never do that in the Lotus. Wonder why

But I don't think we are that unusual - you see an awful lot of Loti for sale with low mileages.

Wouldn't worry about it, 2000 is also the annual mileage I do in mine. I think you'll find a lot of people have their Elise as a second car or toy and as long as it's not a problem for the pocket, then why not? For me it's not just driving it, but pampering it and admiring it and knowing I've got one! Everyone is different and if it makes you happy then carry on.

I did 12,000 miles in mine in the first 9 months of owning it. In the previous 2.5 years it had only done 6,000. Once you've paid off any loan or finance, the car owes you nothing so just enjoy having it. As described in another thread, I'm resting mine for a few weeks, but I'll still go and check on her and just enjoy owning a car I have dreamed of owning for so long. Only sell if you absolutely have to!

The car is paid off so as you say its costing me nothing, only depreciation.

What is nice is that I know its there, and if I ever want to have a nice blast a nice country road then all i have to do is go into the garage.

Depreciation shouldn't be a major issue unless it's a very new car. I wouldn't feel a moment's guilt over it - heavens there are hundreds of high performance cars out there which are used far less than that. I paid mine off last month so can now start the slow save for another car. Enjoy the car in the way which suits you best.
