If you are starting out then I'd suggest getting the biggest compressor you can. On a standard 13A socket the biggest you can run is a 3HP unit & get a 50 or 100 litre tank. If you don't once you get using it you'll always want a bigger one. Most compressors are italian/chinese & all pretty much the same, so buy on price & delivery.
This will drive a 1/2" & a 3/8" impact wrench. Also get a generic set of sockets for it mine are 3/8 & 1/2" & are great. Get some PCL adapters to connect the tools with & use PTFE tape to attach them. Otherwise you'll soon get peed off unscrewing connectors. Get a decent run or two of hose I use a 10M length & even in my garage that can be too short.

thanks TR

maybe a used petrol one off ebay is the way to go ?

you have to spend a fair wack of money to get a decent hp/cfm/litre at somewhere like machine mart

and i gather for proper impact wrench use you just cannot skimp at all on the compressor

Decide what tools you want.
Find out what the air requirements of the most thirsty is.
THEN you know what minimum size compressor you will need.
The cheapie 'all tools included' variety are usually disappointing, esp when you want to buy bigger tools!

6cfm by th looks of it

but then the compressors are quoted not inluding the duty cycle by the looks of it so you need 24cfm on the spec sheet
