Nikon D3000 any good?
Discussion
I dont think theres a whole lot of difference between the canon 1000d and the nikon D3000 - and (baring a few features/spec levels) they all produce stunning images.
See how each feels in your hand, see how you get on with the controls and menu's. Have a long hard look at the lens lineup and what oneday you may like to (reasonably) own.

I've just dived into the world of photography, and looked hard at the Canon 1000d and Nikon d3000. As Rob said, they will both produce brilliant photographs. It's more down to the chap behind the camera, and the lens in front. In terms of the camera's competence, you won't out-grow either for a long time.
I opted for the Canon. I was tempted by the d3000, due to it's built-in wizard guides, which were appealing to me (as a total newcomer), but it seemed to come at a (small) cost of being more time consuming to make changes. I thought once I'd learnt what the wizard was telling me, I'd want rid of it.
I think ultimately, I just prefered the feel of the Canon. I know both are great, and both have extensive product lines, so I pretty much based my decision on how each felt in my hands. Delighted with my choice so far.
Enjoy!
