Hi all,

Looking for some suitable reading to take on holiday and want a book to read about improving bike skills on the road.
I was looking at A twist of the wrist I&II and the Police roadcraft book but would appreciate any opinions.
A chap at work said the roadcraft book was very dull whereas Twist I was too track focussed.

Thanks

duller than a deep ditchful of dull ditchwater on a dull day in Dulwich

I, for one, couldn't really get my head round it.

Personally I'd give Roadcraft or the IAM book a go, but really reading the theory is not much fun and certainly no substitute for being out there doing it.

How about going a bit lateral and confining your holiday reading to Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainance? It'll screw your head up marginally less than Roadcraft - and you are on hols after all

I read Roadcraft on hols last year. Gives you all you need to know about road skills; however, I dont think I have ever read anything so boring. Followed it up with Neil Hodgson 'Back on Track' so it wasnt all that bad.

Has anyone read Carl Fogarty's books?

I bought one for my friends B/Day and he has started it but doesnt get much time to read it so he hasnt finished it yet. Says its great so far.

Foggy on Bikes seems to get good reviews from customers on amazon and it's only about 11 quid. I may buy one for my self unless anyone can suggest something better. Just looking for a good read.

Read Twist of the Wrist I!!!!!

If you can’t quite get to grips with ideas just read it a couple of times. The book is amazing, and no its not just track based! Everything can be adapted to the road, and there are examples that relate to the road.

Also I am sure if there are any misunderstanding post them on here for discussions

The best biking book I ever read is "Sorry Mate I Didn't See You". It's basically a guide to safe riding on the road. It's quite an old book now, there's a short section on tightening spokes for instance! But a lot of stuff about roadcraft, attitude etc still holds true. It's also pretty amusing for non bikers, and has lots of Ogri style funny cartoons.

I'm amazed that it's actually available still on Amazon.

Jupiters Travels by Ted Simon. Not exactly specifically about riding skills, but sage words all the same.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M Pirsig, again nothing to do with riding skills, or motorcycle maintenance but a bloody good read.
