I'd love to see Bazemore driving at the Pod. He plays the corporate sponsor game when he has to, but tends to speak his mind far more than most of the other NHRA drivers. He comes across as more of a real person, rather than just a façade. I like that.

well money and sun should be available...

How come Abu Dhabi would go NHRA but Bahrain is (or has been) FIA, is there a benefit by going NHRA?

Well if the facility was included on the NHRA Full Throttle tour (logistically doubtful) the worldwide TV coverage and advertising exposure opportunities for sponsors would be worth a fortune, how it would stack up against the FIA revenue generating potential though would be a question for one of the pro team marketing experts I imagine.

Looks as though it has the usual NHRA safety features. If a car fails to stop it kills someone in a boat and then sinks in the water.Something different from a concrete wall I suppose. All razzmatazz instead of being fit for purpose.

a 1000ft bungee cord anchored at the start and to the rear of all racers should sort it

if its a 1/4mile it should just reach and drag em back

Oh No! I was really looking forward to this. Thought it could be a really positive development for the future of the sport that I love.

Thank goodness Kestral is here to point out that I, and many others, were wrong, and it's actually going to be st.

I apologise.

Have you actually seen pictures of the sand trap and catch netting or even better been and seen them in the flesh then kestral? Do you actually know the overall length of the shutdown area? No I thought not

Ok, total guesswork looking at the picture but,
The back straight at Abu Dhabi is 1.3km long
A conversion thing I picked at random on the internet says 440 yards is 0.402336km

Rounded up that's .4km

That would say that the shutdown is .9km or .56mile

I think that compares quite well with other places.

The track looks like it may actually be longer even than that though.

Well all that is well and good but im sure if it will be an nhra sanctioned racetrack it will have more than enough run off and as chris said, catch nets and sand trap!
Oh and sorry to re state the initial point, i really hope they do come and race over here because THAT would be a fun weekendsmile
Cheers!

What I am thinking about is that poor chap who ran into a concrete wall after his parachute burnt of. I think that was a NHRA approved track. Then there is all that water on the left top of the strip! what if a car goes out of control!!!. What is anyone thinking of designing a strip from new like that!!. Madness. I like to see positive development for Drag Racing but if something is C**P I will not accept it just because anything is better than nothing.

Have you not noticed that since "that poor chap" who didn't hit a concrete wall, but something else entirely which you would know if you had any real interest in the sport and its safety, that NHRA have been making serious specification changes to their safety measures including vehicle arrest systems (thats catch netting to you...In real life its a bit more involved).

Why on earth does it matter what is past the end of the strip as long as the shutdown area is long enough and the sand trap and catch netting do their job adequately and there is good access for emergency services.

Maybe you'd prefer enough pot holes to slow the cars down and a pile of pig muck at the end. Next you'll start to sound like Kenny Knowling with his NHRA are "killing my heros" crap.

Back to the point....

Abu and Bahrain arent that far apart, but the yanks/NHRA will go to Abu, leaving Bahrain to the Euro-ites/FIA, is that a fair summing up?
