Which car will offer the best value?
Discussion
don't hold me to this in 18-months' time, but...
assuming that each car is under warranty, i'd estimate the 911 would cost 1.5k in servicing and consumables and each of the others around four times as much ???
true depreciation plus bid to offer spread is around 20-25k for each, half that for the 911 ???

much as i hate to do this, i have to agree with Andrew.
his figures are about right but....and this is quite an important point (imo) if you're worred about depreciation you really shouldnt buy the car.
listing cars on the basis of how much they will cost as opposed to how much you want them is for cars you need as opposed to cars you want.
if you've your heart set on a scud but buy a porsche because it makes financial sense then you may as well buy a mondeo and wish you'd bought the scud as that is what you'll think even in the porsche every time you see a scud go by.
buy the car when you're happy to drive it and drive it without fear of mileage or depreciation.
otherwise you'll always have that nagging thought in the back of your mind.

You're dead right - the problem I have is this recession has made me very undecisive. I am 30 and in the lucky position that I could buy any of the cars for cash but so £30k depreciation isn't going to worry me too much, but since all the things going on in the economy I feel a bit guilty about spending so much on a car. I also have quite a lot of staff who work for me and I don't want to rock the boat when I'm telling them times are tough, etc, but then I work about 60 hours a week and if I can't have some toys and fun then what's the point?his figures are about right but....and this is quite an important point (imo) if you're worred about depreciation you really shouldnt buy the car.

Anybody else like this at the moment? A couple of years ago I would have just gone and bought the bloody thing!
also just had my gallardo serviced (first year @ main dealer) - it only cost me £890...
Or for the money buy a couple of fun cars that will not suffer as much, currently I've got a 360 spider, 335GTB and a RUF Porsche, none of which will loose much (I also personally find them more involving to drive than lots of the latest generation of cars which are faster but not as much fun on the road).
But most importantly ALWAYS buy the car your heart wants otherwise you are as Harsh says wasting cash and doing something pointless. If you come to something like an Ace Cafe meet it's not good standing there thinking wish I'd bought one of those!

Nice pic of the 430 in your profile - you pleased with it? Any regrets or is your mouth still aching from all the smiling!?
I am absolutely loving every single second of it, totally surpassed my expectations, can't get the smile off my face, I'll be driving it a lot, two weeks in and I've got a thousand miles under my belt
John.
