Key West, Florida.
Discussion
I went 3 or 4 years back, again Landed in Orlando did Disney and the usual parks, drove over to Tampa and did Busch Gardens, then a drive down the west coast stopping for a fan boat ride in the everglades, worth a go!, down to Key West, and then back up the East coast to Kennedy.
Key points. (Pun not intended)
Hotels at the end of the keys are expensive, not much land and its popular, worth booking accommodation in advance as we ended up asking the tourist information place to find us a room anywhere and that was out of season.
Its tropical there so expect an increase in temperature and a BIG hike in humidity, given where it is is should be obvious.
Its worth taking a glass bottomed boat out to the reef to see the sea life, and if you have time a plane ride to the end islands is good.
If you have never ridden a jek ski, do so here!
Sample the key lime pie.
The drive over the bridges is excellent!
The end of the keys is something of a Gay mecca, so your aware in advance.

Key West - where drinking is a sport and fishing is a pastime........
Went there for 3 days in our Florida road trip in October this year. Weather was hotter than normal and was absolutely fabulous.
Take the trip to the Dry Tourtogas (sp?!) and Fort Jefferson, the snorkelling around there is amazing and it really is quite an interesting bit of history.
There are plenty of good bars, restaurants and places to stay in Key West, depending on when you're going (is frat boy central in the spring, along with local air base personnel) you shouldn't need to book. We stayed at a place called the Wicker house - $99 a day B&B for 2 in a lovely setting.
It's renowned for its gay population, there are also some stunning art galleries and the drag shows are a giggle.
Honestly, there was so much going on when we went - and it was out of season - I wouldn't worry about being bored.
Just remember to take plenty of Alka Seltzer......

Definitely book accomodation in advance. If you don't use Trip Advisor start now! We were there in September, and *every where* was on Trip Advisor - so there's lots of reviews, everywhere's listed on there, and companies take it very seriously (eg hotels, restaurants, etc... were advertising their current ranking and asking you to post feed back)eddie1980 said:

Do this! Do the tour where you ride your jet ski all around the island - it's a great trip, and they give you plenty of time to play with the jet ski in flat water as well. Our guide yelled "drive it like a hire car" before gunning his ski off into the distance at full speed!

No. Sample lots of key lime pie! Everywhere has their own recipe.I would say 3 - 5 days in Key West is enough. It's very chillied out, and we had a great time there, but there's not that much to do (unless you like fishing!)
