Remember when you were a kid waiting on Santa to arrive - seemed like ages...

Well, since I did the deed with a 2009 Ford Focus RS last week, its becoming an increasingly long wait until this Thursday when I pick her up! Blue, Lux 2, Half leather, USB/Bluetooth etc

Have a 5 hour drive in Scotland to Stranraer, then on the ferry to Belfast, and just under 2 hours drive home. In a way, quite looking forward to the adventure.

Anyhoo, I've had a test drive before and loved it. Was wanting owners opinions on what they thought was the best and worst feature in the car - just one of each please. I've started it off...

2 more sleeps!!!!!

Non height-adjustable seat definitely my vote. Runners up for me would have to include the no-show of a pause button on Lux 2 , the general silly way the functions of the lux 2 headunit work (i.e. no nav or phone connection without the radio/aux on.) and of course the lack of handbrake relocation for RHD cars.

What's all this about 'transit-like cruise control'??! As far as I knew, you could actually get cruise control on the Transit, unlike the RS!

Yeah, you can get cruise control on a Transit - we have a few at home, but the control unit on the RS, for me, is bulky and ugly, and straight from a Transit van - its the exact same unit!! Thought Ford could have made the unit a little sleeker and so that it does not get in the way of my knee!!!

Are you on about the steering column control unit for the stereo? No Cruise on the RS, as far as I know, even on the latest build?

In any case, the unit (volume control etc) could have been a little sexier!

The Auto wiper calibration is far from ideal on the Focus too, come to think of it. The Megane system was nigh on perfect. Start the car with water on the windscreen and it takes absolutely ages to decide to do anything about it. Usually I have to manually intervene.

Related is the operation for a single wipe when you need it. If you leave your wipers on auto (position 1), like I do, you have switch back down to position zero and nudge down further for a single wipe, then put it back up to position 1, in which case it automatically wipes ones anyway. Again, something that was much better thought out in other cars.

I know they're little things which aren't RS specific, but they do bug me easily.

TBH Arun, i didn't think i'd use the auto wipers, but i leave my on all the time & i've found them to be fine! Never have to intervene to get an extra wipe!
Agree with the stereo points though.
You can lower the seat by about 3-4 mm by the 4 allen keys bolts, straight forward job, which i have done, makes a big difference but TBH i reverted back to the standard factory setting, prefer the higher seat position!
Glad you mention about the 'cruise control', thought i was missing out on something or going mad!! biggrin

Oh, and Ford's continuing obsession with giving their most top of the range cars the least amount of protection against car park dings continues to baffle me.

Styling is all well and good, but my RS is an everyday hot hatch (like it should) and it's just a heartache waiting to happen with bare door panels like that.

Luckily Ford dealer got it done by one of those chip & dent guys & put it through under warranty!! biggrin

Had mine a week and a half (700 miles)and very happy...stereo control looks lke the same unit fitted to my missus`s MK1 Focus 1.6 Zetec automatic!
Only real complaint with my car is it constantly pulls to the left...I guess there are downsides to being produced on the standard production line. Going into the dealers next week to get it sorted.

I'm really disappointed that I couldn't fit factory cruise control to my Focus RS, it seems like a logical option. Not having it as standard or even as an option seems very 1990's to me. Does anyone know if anyone has tried to retro fit a Ford cruise control system into their Focus RS?
Also I fitted my iPod Classic into it's holder in the centre console and then found you can't close the lid properly. Who ever thought of that design?
Apart from those issues and the uncompromising ride I love the car. It is exciting just seeing it in the garage when the door opens and it is a hoot to drive.

Retrofitting cruise would be far too much hassle to be worthwhile, I reckon, though I agree it would be nice to have. It's truly one of those features you think you don't need till you have a car that has it, then you find yourself using it all the time on motorways. Loved it on my R26 and did miss it on the R26.R.

I don't had an RS, currently have an ST220 mondeo, but I'd echo the lack of door protection on the top models. Why, oh why did they not include the little bump-strips! Insanity! silly

The bump strips do fk all anyway, i'd rather the clean lines than some pointless piece of plastic that simply doesn't work! You can easily fit them to the 220 if you really wanted them, does the FRS use different doors to the lower models?

Im sure they are the same doors as the other lower model 3 door cars.
