Decided that me and the O/H are going into London for a bit of xmas shopping, bite to eat etc on saturday. I saw that there is this Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, with a circus, stalls, shopping etc, and a massive ice rink.

"Ooh" thinks I, "t'wife would love a bit of open air ice skating"

So i go on the website, and you can only book tickets through Tickmaster.

So, select 1hr time slot, and for 2 adults it would be....

£32. Thirty. Two. Pounds.

Absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!! It's for a fecking hour!!!

Thieving bags.

Let's see you power an ice rink 24/7 for a month for less smile

PS: Somerset house, much better, they filmed something there (Love Actually maybe?) and so she'll love it. Have taken my girlfriend 3yrs running now as it's near our anniversary. That's a similar price.

Why would you want to do that?

You will just fall and bang your head on the ice, and did you know that even though it is made of water, they use some magic to make it hard.

It bloody hurts.

....Insurance for when someone decks it and decides to sue because the ice is "too slippy" or "too hard" and doesnt provide "adequate safety protection"

i wouldn't be surprised!

Believe it or not, that was the extra gift over and above the £10 egg whisk debacle.

Fck.

Our anniversary is the 9th.

Bugger.

Dang.

Well, i was jesting above really - i think Somerset House is a much nicer setting, more befitting of the price tag, in my eyes.

SH now booked, O/H happy - cheers Tony!

Just because it costs that much to put on, doesn't make it worth that much to the paying consumer.

That and when you fall over and someone decides to slice off your finger while skating over your hand. Ouchy ouch ouch. Saw this happen at the one in Nottingham last year.

worth and value are subjective, cost isn't

considering that both HP and SH will be booked out within the next fortnight (apart from the really crap times) I'm guessing that the paying consumer thinks differently to you

Good stuff thumbup As I say, we've done it 3yrs (next week will be 3rd) now - it's very nice setting, have a nice meal nearby before and then have a quick skate and a hot chocolate - Gina loves it smile

You can park right on embankment, which is barely a few minute walk away, for free if you go late in the evening.

Double check the film (can't remember myself now), but it is something like Love Actually, or Four Weddings, definitely a Hugh Grant film, where he and female star did exactly that at Somerset House; those women folk love all that stuff smile

You are, of course, correct, but the fact that most of the decent times are booked out from mid-november suggests that it's a pretty good success thumbup
