I was going to suggest if you like more authentic food, with basic but functional surroundings then China China is was perfect.
Now closed - so no help to you at all - sorry.

China China was great - sad day when it closed. If you're ever in Canary Wharf though I can thoroughly recommend the Lotus near South Quays DLR. Best Chinese I've ever had! Now closed - so no help to you at all - sorry.

is that the one on the boat?
I live, litrally next to that, can see it from my window, always thought it looked a bit, well......rubbish.
Is the food actually any good then?

The Wong Khee or however the fk you spell it.
Great food, thrown at you, beer in a can, thrown at you and cash only.
The place is also fking enormous, tardis like in fact.
Wong kei is huge, cheap and quick, food is 'ok' but there are better ones. China City or new Diamond are both good, and just between Leicester Sq and Gerrard St (pedestrian chintown bit)Great food, thrown at you, beer in a can, thrown at you and cash only.

Worth bearing in mind you'll get better food midweek as they'll be less busy so the quality won't suffer.
There is a place that does decent dim sum on the corner of whitcomb and shaftsbury. Can't remember what it's called, be a while since I've been into town.
Dinner wise, New Fook La Moon on gerrard street is one of my favs.
Plus the name makes me chuckle and it's relatively inexpensive.
