Canon 5DMK2 OR 7D Which one
Discussion
Currently have a 40D and want to upgrade, I have one normal lense 70-300 DO, all other ones are from the EFS range, really like the Idea of full frame and yes I want L series lens, anyway back to the camera choice is there much between these two in real life other than full frame V smaller sensor ? The 7d is actually more up todate than the 5D ? I am not bothered about Video. How does the build quality compare ?

You could always blow it on nitrous, hookers or coke

For me it would be a no brainer as I have a 5DMk1 so I would get a Mk2. All my lenses are EF and the fps of the 7D has no interest to me. I'm quite happy with my Mk1 though, the only reason I will upgrade is that it has done 70000 shots and I don't want it to fail on me during a shoot.

Lots of good info here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
If you're going to shoot people 95% of the time, mostly in studio like conditions then the 5d MKII is the winner. Otherwise the extra reach and improved AF of the 7d do it.
Your glass isn't up to much so whatever way you go you need to invest in that. The 40d is a fine camera, personally I'd take the 1000-1700 (that's the price difference between the two, not sure why you've grouped them together) and spend it all on glass.

Just bought a 7D.
Strongly considered a 5D2 as I always saw myself going Full frame. But I didnt. Why? I dont shoot super high ISO much, can live with crop DOF and dont print large enough that the 5D2's extra IQ and pixels would make a difference.
In escence the 5D2 would only allow me to shoot what my 350D did but in much better quality, the 7D does the same (but not to such a degree) but also gives me the whizzy AF and the 8fps, built in flash (comander) and I get to keep/use EFS lenses, the extra cost of the 5d2 (including shifting to EF) I can spend on glass.
So I end up with:
7D (new)
10-20
17-55IS (new)
50/1.8
70-200/2.8
And some point soon a 400/5.6L
Apart from the longer lenses quite a tidy and light setup.
Am impressed with the 7D so far, lots of detail, great AF, great viewfinder and LCD (big issue with the 350D), havnt realy had it out and abut much.

OR
Get some better glass and keep the 40D which is a great camera.
eg (used EF spec (not EFS to future proof for getting a full frame))
17-40 F4 £500
70-200 F2.8 IS £1270
Had this decision to make at the end of October. Owned a 40D & 20D and pre-ordered a 7D from RGB when it was announced. When they called to say it was available I went for the 5D2 I'd always wanted instead based on low noise and image quality.
Spent most of November in East Africa with 5D2 and 40D bodies and am really pleased with the 5D2. Didn't come across any issues with slow AF. 5D2 got most use except when on safari when 5D2\70-200 & 40D\100-400 got equal use. No additional lens costs for me as I only had EF lenses to start with (assumed I'd go FF at some point).
