Vectra V6. A Question.
Discussion
Just bought an 02 3.2 V6 Vectra (new shape).
It is just what I wanted and am very pleased with it.
However, small matter of fixing the surging engine which revs from idle to 2500rpm just for fun all the time.
I suspected the icv, but when I lifted the lid I spotted blue goo! Someones been out with the instant gasket!
So before I start stripping the top, is there a generic fault I should look for first?
Any particular pipe that comes off/gets brittle or any sensor I should replace.
There's are no faults recorded and no management lamps on.
Another thing I noticed on a long drive was the temp guage dropped slowly to zero, which leads me to suspect either a faulty stat or even "no stat" at all.
I will report what I find, but any heads up will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Well, since everyone ran to my aid...........
It was as I suspected originally. An air leak at the inlet manifold is leaning down both banks.
I thought the icv may have been at fault, but then upon observing the revs being somewhat mad at times and seeing vast amounts of blue goo I went to the dealer and told him my thoughts.
It was suggested the car may have "forgotten" how to idle, but when he saw the goo he thought the same.
Turns out it's a simple fix, if bloomin expensive (the rubbers are part of the manifolds and whatnot so around £400 to replace them).
I opted for high temp instant gasket at £11

All good, but I suspect it was the inclusion of the word 'Vectra' that made everyone avoid the thread.
Ha ha ha, I like Vetra's....always have

Glad to know it's an easy fix as well as cheap.
Dealer informed me there were only 250 GSi's made
so I guess that makes it a bit of a rarity.Gassing Station | Engines & Drivetrain | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
