Ripping Cds in iTunes

Peeps im having a problem with iTunes i can rip so many CDs then the program will close down. Anyone else having this problem?
Im running XP Pro on a 2.8P4 with 512RAM.
Some times i can rip 2-3 CDs in a row if im not doing anything else, sometimes i can't even rip more than 3 tracks from a CD.
Oh and a few times the PC has just shutdown and restarted on me.
Starting to pi$$ me off now as i want to rip all 500+ CDs into MP3 but at this rate its going to take ages!

Try CDex: www.cdex.n3.net/
If it doesn't work properly either, it might be a hardware problem, if it works, problem solved
