Forgot what a crap system Ebay has.Sometimes

And before you all say you bid what you think its worth etc etc. I did.

Expensive item, no reserve, and the highest bidder at £260 with seconds left.
I have been holding the highest bid since the auction started.
I did actually bid up to £650 and a few bob over.

Surpise surprise, last seconds, outbid. And with a privite bidders auction.
No intention of selling it whatsoever.IMO

I did ask her outright at the start via a message what price it was she wanted, only to be informed it was for auction only.

And the bizarre thing was the item was for sale in a showroom ex display.

People eh?

I fail to see the problem.

You bid what you were willing to pay.

You got outbid.

Sorry, a bit confused.
All I read is that you bid for something and then someone bid more than you and you are annoyed and don't think it is fair confused

Someone used a program to outbid you at the last second so you couldnt outbid them.

Was the item worth more than the £650 you were prepared to pay?

you did a novice mistake of showing your interest way too early, you are supposed to bid in the last couple of minutes.

Whats the item?

Got a linky?

Ebay has worse problems that that. Brother recently sold his iPhone on Ebay. Not long left, the phone is at a reasonable price (about the going rate) when some ahole with zero feedback bids £550, more than the cost of a new and improved iPhone. Of course my brother sells it to the previous highest bidder with a second chance offer, but Ebay charged him the 10% of the £550 the other clown bid (and obviously hadn't paid) as well as the 10% of the previous highest bid.

Going through their disputes section was a pain, took him ages to get the message through that he would NOT be paying £55 on top of the other charge because of their flawed system. Tossers.

I've always thought that ebay would be much better off letting an item run for 30 seconds after the last bid was recieved. Therefore it would be much more like a real auction, in it's current form it is simply an electronic sealed bid type affair, not a true auction.

Actually i hope someone else does it, not ebay, because they are wkers.

If you really want the item put a bid in with about 8 seconds to go and time it so that it registers at about 2 seconds to go, takes practice but is do-able. Of course if you are still out-bid...

The item was a bathroom vanity unit.
Very expensive - £4k list.

In the pictures on the listing it can be clearly seen that there is a placard stating "this item is for sale", picture taken in the actual shop.

I did enquire whether it was still for sale in the shop, or just for auction on ebay. Reply was that it was for auction only now.

In IMO, anyone who has bid on the auction should be able to see who has bid on the auction too - as opose to all this private bidders lsiting...

What is there to hide?

Obviously I am a very bitter man who enjoys munching sour grapes, washed down with lemons.

I am of the belief that there is no way the seller would have let this item go for a "decent amount" - whatever that may be.

Indeed a £4k item for around the £600 mark - whats that 15% or so...?

That's a great idea. Trouble is, ebay have such a dominant share, no other auction site has a look-in...

The main point about "jinx"...in fact, one could say it's raison d'etre, was that you had to say the same thing at the same time. Else YOU wouldn't be able to say anything until the other said your name.
And gave you a dead leg, chinese burn and atomic wedgie.
