Buying 996 C4!! - help required please
Discussion
Hi all.
I have been tempted by 996s for quite some time, and have finally decided to take the plunge.
The car I am thinking of is a high miler 996 c4 tip. Its a '99 car with 65k miles on the clock, 2 ownwers.
I was hoping you could help me with the following:
1. Is high mileage an issue for a car with a FPSH? WIll it be an issue for selling on at say 80k miles, i.e. in terms of people not touching high mileage cars? The condition of the car is mint, with 4 new tyres etc.
2. Any views on how important an inspection is? Does anyone know any good companies? OPC inspections can only take place at a Porsche dealer, which will be difficult. Any good independents in the London area?
Thanks in advance for your help!

high mileage wont be a massivee problem depending on what you are paying to start off with. I would hope you would be paying very low 30s.
There are loads of older 911s fetching high prices with much higher mileage. FPSH is a great help.
I would get a porsche warranty for about 900 squid, if possible too.
An inspection ( as full as possible) is absolutely essential. If the vendor wont have it, walk away. There are loads more available.
My personal advice would be to avoid the tiptronic.
Ok if you are using it in london daily, fine, but you will really be missing out on a fantastic part of the car. Plus they are slower. (C4s are slower too) IMHO of course.

SLOWER...how quick do you want to get in the real world!!
The tip C4 is probably .4 sec slower to 62mph than a c2 manual...do you really think that makes a difference in the real world..PLUS..with a tip if you wish you can plant your foot as hard as you like and simply let the car do the work..most people with manual cars would never treat them to the abuse required to make up the .4 sec difference...and as for other stats such as top speed..its not an issue..where does 171 vs 169 mph make any difference!

Bruntingthorpe!
NICE ONE CLUBSPORT..................
Azura, do a search of this website, there is a stack of information on buying a 996......
As has been said B4 you MUST have a full (preferably OPC) check over, also check the car is Uk spec(C16) & has a FULL service history, otherwise walk away. As the other guys say check out a manual, it is the "drivers" choice & is a fair bit brisker (1.5 seconds) than a tip to 100mph (according to Porsches own figures) but the Tip is great around town & stop start traffic.
Let us know the spec. & price, I think you'll be looking at a fair bit less than £30k once it hits 80k miles

I bet you were the kid in the playground that said "My dady's car is faster than yours"
Not at all mate,, prefer to drive the car in an enviroment suitable to exploit the design gone into the car, rather than pootle round the north circular or leave the car sitting on a showroom floor
