Advertising placed in the wrong place

So why has PH taken the NHS sheckel by the showing of two men together in a shower under the heading of rape it can happen.

This has been advertised on the PH front page offering rape support services.

The clear point of advertising is to target users of your service.

Now call me thick on many levels but why do the NHS and PH (by taking the advert) think this is achieving their collective aims other than filling PH coffers.

If it is two men involved ther must be surely many more sites that are frequented by men who want to have sex with other men (consciously or sub conciously) that this advert would target more.

If it was aimed at women being raped by men then why show two men together.

I really think this advert (that we have paid for through taxes) is misjudged/placed.

first off Advert what Advert thanks to Firefox and ABP, but have you read some of the stuff involving CVM in the lounge? I think Pistonheads could come out target market if those threads are taken as representative

Are you suggesting that only gay men can be raped?

The advert program records the contents of your mind and places adverts accordingly, so everyone sees something different.

I did post this in the lounge for those dwellers to see especially CVM, however despite being on no news channel, not to do with politics and certainly not economics (unless the money involved with teh advertising is counted) it was moved here within minutes of being posted.

I am surgesting that any orifice can be raped by having something stuffed unwillingly into it.

I am also surgesting that the advert is misplaced by bad representation when surely the majority of (disgusting) rapes are committted by men on women.

If that is the case why is that advert on PH ? as the advert is for rape support not rape prevention?

Probably a question for the advertising agency/NHS; but if I had to guess, I'd say it's because they believe that men are less likely to be aware of NHS rape support than are women. Men are reportedly less likely than women to report when they've been raped, so it would make sense to me that rape support services might be in need of greater publicity among males. Additionally, it could be that as well as the male-oriented advert you have seen, there are ten on other female-heavy websites.

It's surely just targeted advertising, I don't see it as a big deal so long as they're not scanning my HD/email or tracking my browsing habits..

Indeed on PH. I found it peculiar, too.

In a ideal world we would be able to show nothing but individually booked campaigns by companies who specifically want to advertise on PH. The problem is that we now serve more pages per month than we can sell adverts for, so in addition to the booked-in campaigns we also serve some "bulk bought" adverts to fill the remaining spaces.

Generally, the more targeted adverts appear in the smaller, marque specific forums where they will have maximum effect and the filler ads end up in the bigger sections which generate larger numbers of views.

We still have the power to pull individual adverts, whether it is for technical reasons or simply because we disagree with the content. In this case, although it's a bit of an odd advert, I don't have a problem with it so we will leave it running unless you guys have any strong objections?

Also, remember the detrimental affect ABP and similar plugins have on ad funded site. We have also seen it causing occasional errors with PH, but that's almost beside the point.
