I normally loiter around the Porsche forum but thought I'd nip over here to ask a quick question if I may!

One day (hopefully in the not too distant future) I'd like to own an F355 or possibly a 360M. One of my worries is that if I bought the car for say £35k from a dealer then wanted to get rid of it say a year or 2 later, even if the car was still worth £35k (if the dealer was to resell it), how much would I get in my pocket if

a) I sold it outright to the dealer/part ex-ed it
b) if it was one of those commission-type sale or return arrangements
c) if i Was to sell privately

?

My concern is that even if the car didn't actually depreciate, I would still lose say £10k (especially in scenario "a" above) as they would come up with all sorts of reasons as to why it was worth less, even if they'd then put it up for the same price I bought it!

TIA smile

I think that sale or return fees are generally around £2000.

A very good question.....it will be interesting to see the response since I am in exactly the same position as you, having recently sold my 911. 355/360? ....do I/don't I? .....will my eyes be taken out etc etc...

We all know they are pretty much at the bottom of their depreciation curve, but we all know that come sale time, it's a different ball game.

I would guess that like others in our position, we have a fairly healthy income/savings account, but that dosen't make us millionaires and so we've still got to consider whole ownership cost.

Exactly! It's not that I earn vast amounts, it's just that I have more relative disposable income than most in my situation and choose to spend it on things I enjoy (Cars) smile

I was quoted £1500 + VAT as an opening gambit (plus anything to prep it for sale). I'm sure some shrewd negotiations could more or less halve that

just to check, would that be no sale no fee then?

Yep, I would never do anything else, however, as I'm buying another Ferrari, I went for a very sweet p/x deal instead

Is the 550 going then? What did you decide on in the end?

Presumably you'd then get it inspected thoroughly instead! How much would that roughly cost? A lot of companies seem to offer it!

Btw, does anyone have any detailed running costs down for an F355/360M in their PH garage section so I can get an idea of what might be expected?

Cheers

Conversely I have always sold privately. If you have a nice car it usually sells to the first or second person who comes to see it (IME at least).

You can get a Ferrari dealer PPI for about £230 +vat this covers all the items that they look at for Ferrari approved resale if it passes you can get Ferrari warranty (they will even take the price of the inspection off the cost of the warranty).

I bought mine privately, the only advantage of buying from a dealer would be slightly more peace of mind and a warranty (check though, most won't come with a warranty). Warranties can be a bone of contention in themselves.
If you buy privately with a decent inspection and thoroughly check the history then you shouldn't have a problem.
It's roughly £300 for a decent inspection but obviously it will vary. Make sure it includes a compression or leak down test for peace of mind as the F355 can suffer from valve problems (from cracked manifolds or valve guide issue etc.).

£1500+VAT ? Isn't that just the additional service cost apart from the standar trade-in VS sale price difference?

I am swapping to a 360 F1, I spend the majority of my time blatting and the 550 can do it, bur is better at a different type of driving. If I had the money I would keep it and buy a 360 too, but I don't (for now)
