Eeup.

For want of hijacking the other thread, I'm posting here smile

I've rooted about the back of my radio and interrogated the wiring (not easy when its dark and cold) and I found the wires I needed:

"For 1990 Miatas, the car's wiring at the Miata radio's rear:

For the larger radio connector, power, control and door speaker wiring:
Blue/Black: ACC (Switched Live)
Blue/Red: BATT (Battery Live)
Red/Black: The Nighttime Signal (TNS - Dims the radio)
Blue Right: Door -
Blue/Yellow: Right Door + (some 1990 Miatas as built, Blue/Green)
Red/Green: Left Door +
Red/White: Left Door -"

However, wiring up my radio with my red cable from the stereo into the blue/black switched live means the radio doesn't power up at all... never mind the orange cable to red/black not dimming the radio display on the lights...

Can anyone confirm the above is right in terms of wiring?

Would I bet be buying a multimeter and learning how to use one?

One thing I should note is that my cigar lighter doesn't work - perhaps that could be why - maybe the fuse is duff?

Neil definitely get yourself a Multimeter - once you have one its very easy to do something like this - black cable to ground, set to 20V, then use the probe, and work through the cables methodically.

My local Autospares place do a Multimeter for aobut £7.

Also - the permanent live is to keep the units internal memory powered, while the actual feed for the power amp etc may come from the switched live - have you tried it with both connected feeds connected?

(Switched live goes to yellow on an ISO connector, I think?)

Cheers chap: I'll go get one later.

Other way around - Red is switched live, and Yellow permanent.

I've got it rigged up with the red and yellow of the ISO wired up to the permanent live - but obviously its a pain because the radio is always on and I have to turn it off...

Wired it all back in as it should be, and found that in actual fact, I needed a cigar lighter fuse to make it work (including the dimmer) hehe

Slapped a 15amp in under that bloody dash area, and bingo thumbup

Wierdly enough, Sophies also had a duff fuse in the same spot, and as soon as i replaced hers, her stereo worked as it should biggrin

Apologies for resurecting such an old thread, but I'm having the same problem - no power to the cigar lighter or radio.

What I'm wondering is which fuse the OP changed - I've tested every fuse in the No1 block under the dash, and they are all OK.

As the wiring for both the radio and the lighter disappear into the loom, I'm a bit stumped now.

All advice (other that throwing the car away) welcome.

Well, finally found the fault last night - despite having tested every fuse for continuity, I replaced each of the 15A fuses and, lo and behold, problem solved...

Partner now well pleased that the stereo works and that the satnav can recharge on the move.
