--UPDATED-- SCROLL TO BOTTOM
I recently trawlled through my direct debits list online and canceled all the ones that have expired or i did not recodnise.
Got a text from "Policy Admin" on my phone asking me to ring them urgently.
I just phoned them. Apparantly I have had a phone insurance policy running since 2001 with them that i didnt know i had.
So, thats technically 5,99 * 12 * 8 = 575 GBP i have wasted in 8 years because i have broken a few phones in that time and never claimed.
So the moral of the storey boys and girls is.... check your statments!

So in that whole time you've never looked at your statement and seen "policy admin 5.99" and never ever thought "I wonder what that's for"?!
To be honest i probably have. Because i have had phone insurance with a couple of contracts since i took this out i probably presumed it was with my (then) current mobile contract.what can i say, its my own fault, and i am an idiot. lesson learned
Its amazing how easy this is done. Most of the time you just check to make sure theres enough money to get another few pints and carry on with your life.
It wasnt quite as long as you, but it was the same people, the bank called them I believe and I got around 3/4 of the money back as they could see that the insurance related to a defunct phone contract!
Give it a whirl!

I have had the same happen to me.
I said that I never signed the contract, and they said well then, we can go to the phone provider and see if we can get a copy of the contract, if we do get a copy, you get sod all of your money back, However if they cannot find the document, if you ever signed one, they will give you all of you money back.
Or they will ask if you want to settle now, and will give you about 1/2 the money back, even if you did or did not sign the document.
Hope this helps.

Just found another one i'd forgotten about!
29.90 (per annum - it just happened to come out last month) for card and passport protection.
Now this i'll happily pay for as it sorts out everything if you lose your wallet or your passport. Unfortunately i completely forgot I had this when I lost my passport while on a stag do in the summer and missed the opportunity to get back the £120 I had for a new passport. I can't retrospectively claim as i needed to log a loss report with them at the time.
My father would be ashamed of me...

It's taken you EIGHT years to clock an old DD...
Sweet baby Jesus. Am I the only one that checks my accounts online on a daily basis and can account for every single transaction?
Nope. Sweet baby Jesus. Am I the only one that checks my accounts online on a daily basis and can account for every single transaction?
Part of the morning routine. Fairly tight on how much sits in my current accounts, so I want to know exactly how much I have on a given day.
I've cancelled a few DD's before and they've been important, woops.

I had £25 per month with a Bank for their "Premier" account. At the time I never read my statements, or any post from the bank. To cut a long story short I noticed this when splitting with my ex and closing down a joint bank account.
I had been charged £25 x 26 months (£650)on my personal account, and £25 x 8 months (£200)on my joint account before I noticed. To be fair to the bank, with quite minimal fuss they refunded the full amount. They had written stating that no response meant you agreed to their new terms and conditions, rather than I had to acknowledge it. I assume I was not the first to call!
Strangely I still have the account and have never been charged since, but still get all of the benefits (although only one I use is the guaranteed UK call centre).
