On my garage, with a flat roof (gentle slope) the roofing felt has split along the edge where it bends over the side, so the water is running throung the split and on to the chipboard garage ceiling.

So, what do I need to make the repair? Can the split be sealed with one of these...

or do I need to replace the felt, or cover the existing with a patch etc.

Cheers.

Any repair will be just that, and should be viewed as a temporary patch until you can repair it (by that I mean re-felt) in the spring.

You should be looking for something that doesn't set, and has fibres to span the gap. Just black bitumen gunge won't last long enough to get to spring.

We stock a product called flexacryl, it's available in 1, 2.5 and 5kg tubs, in black and grey. Wear disposable gloves and podge (technical term) plenty in.

When it warms up again in the spring, strip off all the old felt and replace. You may need to replace some of the wood, so be prepared for this when you start.

from the link, go with the roof repair mastic with fibres.
