Just been reading Circuit Driver Magazine and it prompted me to ask these questions.

How much do trackday silencers effect the performance?

How much sound do they actually cut out?

How loud your Griff in db and what exhaust mods have you made?

Just after i bought my pre cat, a mate was down at Castle Coombe, so i took the chance to get the car noise tested (106 very nice Db's if i recall)

I went over to Merlin, who lent me a set of their TD silencers, then got the car tested again and it went down to 96db. Needless to say it seemed logical to buy them, as i knew they would do the job, being asked of them, and i would not have to take a gamble on getting something cheaper on the net say, which i did not know would be good enough.

Since then i have used them at Coombe, Goodwood & Bedford, the only place i can get the car on the track un noise checked is at Brands.

I must admit that i have not really seen a great reduction in performance, as the bins are just extra silencers on the tail pipes, there are other sorts of supertrap's i've seen which look every restrictive though, and i've been asked by the drivers if mine do restrict performance as much as theirs do.

I can only assume by their asking, that they feel the car is being restricted.

I think i paid about £70 per silencer from Merlin ( who must do a roaring trade down there.)

Just bought some from ACT for £90 the pair, for a track day at Oulton. Make a hell of a difference to noise, but being absorbtion baffles, shouldn't restrict air flow too much.

Bloody strange world, keep quite whilst on the track and then it's OK for a ripper on the road. Strange, at least to me.

Nothing would give me greater pleasure, than parking the car up outside some of the noise whingers houses nr to Goodwood, along a few other pre cat owners, and letting the locals have "both barrels"

The noise thing on circuits is a complete arse, as the last time i was there a few weeks ago, a bloody su 26 was doing aerobatics during lunch, and there is no way he was obeying the 98 Db limit!!!

P.S Well done to Pompey,
Harry Redknapp, we are not worthy!
