Karl Pilkington - Is he real?

I've been listening to the Ricky Gervais audiobooks this week (Cost me £16 on iTunes, boohoo!) and I've always been fascinated as to whether Karl Pilkington is an actual person? Weirdly there's no pictures of his missus online either (Just one of the back of her head) even though she's supposedly quite famous!

Anyone know the truth?

Saw him on the Culture Show, and he has a few video podcasts on youtube.

So he is real and hilarious.

The latest podcasts, especially the guide to society is fantastic!!!

Having listened to pretty much everything hes in including XFM shows from '02 he seems very genuine. The old stuff is much better though because hes less of a circus act and generally seems alot happier. I do wander whether he plays up to it a bit in later stuff but i think it's just hanging out with Ricky Gervais who i'm really starting to dislike as he seems very manipulative and two-faced.

I remember listening to the original xfm radio show (available on a torrent site near you) and this subject came up when they talked about a review of the show in a newspaper. Steve Merchant said that it was taking them up to 2 months to write a 30 minute episode of The Office and they just could not script the radio show if they tried.
Ricky said that he met up with Karl during the week before the show and they chatted about stuff and if Karl came up with his comedy gold he would tell him to save it for the show.

although real, the later stuff is a little artifical....if only because he is "used" too often. In the past he would inject with funny one liners...now the script for a podcast is "fine art.....karl, tell us what you think" .... funny still, but not what it was.

Yep download and listen to the xfm archives brilliant stuff. KP was a producer on the Gervais Show with Merchant co presenting. It was just as the Office was breaking. Gervais and Merchant genuinley funny normal blokes at the time whatever you think abou them now.

Karl was bought more and more into the show after some brilliant comments from him and stories about his life. Definately not created althgouh journos criticised Gervais at the time for creating him. As Gervais said "if I was writing comedy gold like this for 2 hours a week do you think I would let it go out on a tip pot radio show on a sautrday lunchtime?"

Although KP does now have a persona that is used to sell podcasts. And why not i guess.
