Career redirection? - becoming a guitar teacher?
Discussion
I guess we all go through getting bored sick of doing the job we do and was wondering if anybody could give a shred of advice.
I have been doing on-site plumbing (2 years) and factory maintenance/plumbing (2 years). I am a maintenance engineer, just about receive my level 3 NVQ in this. Also a plumber qualified to lvl 2 NVQ.
My job feels secure for the next 2-3 years and will set to earn 22-25k a year.
But my hobby is music. I play guitar reasonably well, some bass, drums and keyboards and write and record music when I get a spare moment. I wouldn't mind trying to use this to make money, possibly becoming a guitar teacher or something else. Anybody know what the hours could be, the qualifications I may need, advertising, money I could earn?
Any guitar teachers here?

Not too sure about training, but the best thing to do would be to get in contact with Rock School who manage a lot of the awards and have a lot to do with teaching music. Would be worth asking them for their opinions. Hours i think are pretty much up to you, most likely either teaching in a school 9-3 or after school, or both. Advertising would depend on the hours you chose, but normally getting in touch with local schools and Rock School would help a lot. Don't know money wise, but a close friend (who i am basing this info on) Gets about £200 a term from each student he teaches, with about 20 or so students per school, with a different school each day. He then gets extra for teaching after school and attending exams with students.
I imagine the best way to get students is advertising on places like gumtree and recommendations
I am currently using a guitar teacher who charges £25 for one hour.
He offers lessons all the way up til 9pm. Next tiem I see him ill ask if he gets many during the day - i wouldnt have thought so though.
Also i imagine peak times are around 4-9pm and weekends.

I spose £25 is fairly resonable. I actually went with this guy because he also does 30 minute lessons, but I have foudn the 1 hour lessons a bit better for me (as a learner)
He has about 20 years experience of teahcing and is a member or lots of organisations
