Morning all,

My S is a bit poorly at the moment so I'm doing what I can to cheer it up. I've new HT leads on the way and have re-done the earthing points but want to get a new battery too. I'm sure my starting problems are due to a number of little things all adding together.

I know I need a HB 069 but wondered if I can do better than simply getting a Halfords one?

Adam,

My current battery is a New Century 069 from Winfields at 90 Glebe Avenue, Ickenham 01895 675367 (walking distance?).

I don't know how effective your battery clamp arrangement is, but I scrapped mine in favour of a ratchet strap (from DIY stores) which is much more secure and easier to deal with.

Thanks Roy. Yes, that is indeed walking distance - fantastic

Are you sure?

Even 200 yards is a long way carrying a car battery (personal experiance)

Just a turn of phrase.

Take the car to be sure it fits and exchange the old battery.

The recommended battery size for an S2 (2.9) is 072 - which is 630 amps as used also in the V8.
The smaller battery 075 is only 590 amps and as such is suggested to be a bit "small" . The length of the 072 is 9" so should fit the battery tray. Not sure what amps the 069 you mention is (if its at least 630 amps then it should be OK).It should also be maintenance free
Just a thought.

I run a 580 cranking A battery and never have any trouble - the S engine isn't too tight, so if 580 aren't enough, something else is wrong!
There aren't many electrical tricky bits on an S - and the lights aren't going to make much difference, are they :-)
