Hi all
My PS3 had decided to stop playing any disks, blueray, DVD, games the lot!.. It's had a recent update to version 3.10 and having googled the issue this seems to be a common issue with 3.10 firmware but I can't seem to find a fix?!.. Anyone had this and managed to sort?.. Tried the old full system retore etc but still no joy as it restored to 3.10 - Help!..

What console is it? i.e 60g/40g/250g
Have you tried holding the front power button down for several seconds when you turn the switch power on (the switch on the back)
e.g
Hold front button down and count to ten when you switch the power on at the back of the unit.
If that doesn't work phone the helpline (they are helpful unlike most call center staff)

From what I have heard Sony wont be fixing this if it goes wrong, well they will but it will cost you £150, there words are something to the effect of
"Its not the firmware update that is doing this, its the hard drive and as its not the firmware doing this its not our fault"
No it is your fault, and you should do what Microsoft did and offer to fix them for free, or put an old update out for version 3.0 which didnt cause this issue

if its less than 3 years old and you have the receipt take it back to where you bought it from.
if they um and R quote the sale of goods act.
its not sonys problem as the SOGA act is from the seller not the maker.
you will have a bit of an argument but be persistent.
and get a repair as opposed to a replacement,as they only have 90 days warranty,im on my 3rd replacement in 8 weeks.

No it IS Sonys problem its happening to alot of consoles after this update, thats like saying RROD isnt Microsofts problem, Sony is just trying to palm blame, Sony wont accept blame because the PS3 hasn't failed like the 360 chipset, and Sony are complete sif they um and R quote the sale of goods act.

ts when it comes down to it.Failing hard drive because of an update is Sonys problem, it means they have f
ked up somewhere along the way.i had this problem a short while back.
you are in a better position than i was and sony may well help,but they dont have too hence they give a replacement with 90 days warranty as a good will gesture.
which i eventually got,a repair would be better imo as you still keep your sale of goods rights.

do a full reformat as sony will tell to do this anyway it takes about 3 hours you will lose everything on the ps3,so back anything you want to save.
i doubt this will fix it but you have to do it so you may as well do it before ringing them.
i think your problem is the same as mine the blueray in fked.
you aint said how you paid for it chq or card,this will guarantee a free repair or replacement.

Does yours load up for say one game then crash, then other times not even recognise the disk??
I rang sony and they said £99 for a repair, BTW my console is 2 years old bought from GAME and a 40Gig Model.
I quoted over the phone that it seemed to be a common problem but the guy was quite arrogant about it telling me, not to belive what i see on the internet because they never seemed to have a problem with them.
