Fuel Pump noisy - Is this normal?

Hi Guys. Newbie question... When I switch the ignition on the fuel pump buzzez quite loudly for a second or two I assume to prime the system then stops. Once started the pump can can be heard buzzing away. Just wondered if this noise is normal or should it run silent or maybe not so loud? Sound of the exhaust drowns it once I open her up a bit. As I say just wondered if the noise is normal, reminded me of the old Ford Orion ghias as they were noisy but it was normal for them to do this. Also waht is the fuel pump from?

Mine definately buzzes so I wouldn't worry

Not sure what the fuel pump is off though - no doubt someone will be along soon to let you know.

Thanks Jaye and yes if I am over your way I will drop you a line. Weather frustrating big time me at the moment as had the car 3 weeks and its not been out of the garage due to wet weather. Want to take it to my friends to get it checked over to....never mind I will keep lifting the door to look at her.

Mine's in it's winter hibernating state at the moment - in bits in the garage - great way to spend the evenings & avoiding SWMBO

Think the fuel pump is common to quite a few Fords, quite possibly including Orions !

My daily drive is stuck in the garage for a couple of days so stuck at the moment.

Fuel Pump is Lucas FDB702 or Bosch 580254911
(I had a brand new Bosch pump fail within 10 miles of fitting a few years ago)

Buzzing can sometimes be a sign of impending failure, although I have had perfectly healthy pumps do this in very hot weather (so possibly a sign of stress?).
