Thinking of buying a DC19 vacuum cleaner as a Christmas pressy. Are they really better then the competition? or just style over substance?

They are good until one has to empty them or, clean the filters.

Doesn't matter how good the hoover is, it isn't going to make a decent Christmas present.

They make excellent presents, so once she has finished washing the dishes after lunch on Christmas day, you and your father can watch as she trys out her new present while shouting, 'year, suck it down bh' from the warmth of the living room.

a) Brave man - buying a domestic appliance as a Christmas present!

b) We have 3 knackered Dyson's at home...

Get a Sebo...

(we went to buy our 4th Dyson from John Lewis, just before closing time... They were just getting their Sebo's out to vacuum their own carpets - decision made!)

Had ours twice as long as the best Dyson lasted and the only thing it's needed (apart from a few bags) is a new cable - and that was only because the OH ran over it and stripped the insulation!

Don't know about the '19' series, but:

Yes, they do work well, especially on carpet. And they don't let much dust out. But, they aren't prefect. IME:
o the 'crevice tool' doesn't suck hard enough unless you cover some of the air holes with tape.
o the 'lifetime filters' are a different meaning of 'lifetime' than you might expect.

ETA- And, my reptilian brain kicked in as I clicked submit. You said Christmas Present. Don't do it. She'll likely stick the crevice tool up you.

OP, use the search facility, dysons have been discussed recently. They're great, unlike those crappy henry's.

ETA, crap present though, can't you think of something more personal?

Back 'On Thread'!!!!

Forget the Dysons, I Know them Well!

Go and Buy a 'Henry'.......Very Powerful (2 speed motor), Very Durable (Hardly any moving Parts apart from a Very Powerful and well proven Motor) You can get Everywhere you need to......Unlike the Dyson!!

They are great for your car with the different attachments, Spares are readily available & cheap...What the heck! you could go and buy another for £80 if it breaks down!!!!

The Dysons are Way Overated (Bagless!!! You still have to empty the Thing!!)

Woman like Dysons Cause they are easier to use and therefore Don't Get the Job Done!!...Naff!!

Henrys are fit for rubble waste only, no use in the home with dog/cat hairs and such. Dysons are easy to empty and the filters are easy to replace.
