a question about esta.

i recall doing one of these for a stop over in LA in april. i cant recall paying anything for it. from searches i've done it seems the thing is valid for 2 years. can anyone back that up? cant recall the number i was given once approved , does this matter?
just logged on to the esta site here and seems they're charging £25 for it.

Should be free on there and that's the official site.
It's valid for 2 years, you just need to keep updating it.
