Axle Stands ?? ?
Discussion
Got 4 v.nice axle stands for Xmas and am looking now to getting the Chim up on them to give the chassis the once over and clean/waxoyl etc and also get under the engine to trace a slow oil drip...Question is.. where is the best place to support the car with 4 stands ? ? ? is it OK to use the outriggers ? I don't feel too happy with having the support points too close to the middle....???
When you put the car on Axle stands do NOT use the outriggers. You will probably mark them or at worst bend them completely. When I did the suspension rebuild on my chimaera 2 stands at the front and 2 at the rear of the main chassis beams was plenty stable enough. At first I wasn't too sure so tried to push the car around - no movement whatsoever!

Yes, use the central chassis rail for the stands - not the outriggers. Most people jack up on the outrigger, then shove a stand under quickly - I've seen many garages (and indies) do this. OF course the best thing is to get the trolley jack all the way under and only jack on the main chassis rails.
Jack the front using the main cross member, accessed by going in from the front of the car. You can safely lift the whole of the front of the car like this.
Dito the rear, but put the jack under the diff, being careful not to damage the casing.
I don't use the outriggers, except possibly to lift the car on its suspension slightly to get my main jack under the front spoiler.

I would not recommend you do this, the diff is rubber mounted and could v easily be damaged. Use the main chassis rails next to it, in my very humble opinion.
