Not wishing to be overly paranoid (and no I haven't got the tin foil hats out yet), but I do know that many lobby and politically motivated groups will be monitoring and posting on PH. Some commercial companies will be doing this too, but its the political ones that concern me. PH has got a good following and its ever-growing, which makes me think that it can easily be used as a tool against us....

So I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few environmentalists on here, looking to provoke, produce PR or to just tie up our time by trolling - if its the CRU? Not sure, but I fully expect the onslaught of climate change based PR in the coming months....

Well if they are let me tell them that they are a sad and pathetic bunch of political dupes, and the only people they are deluding are their deceitful low-IQ masters and themselves.

let me give you a quote from Mike Kopp, Al Gore's former Press Secretary -

"We never operated from a political strategy, we just chased opportunities. If you look at a list of his hearings, it was all over the map. It was like a buffet he was sampling. We tried to do that on a presidential level and it was a different game.He never had great political instincts. He did have a keen sense for opportunities that might make headlines."

quoted by Stephen Keating in 'Cutthroat: High Stakes and Killer Moves on the Electronic Frontier' 1999.

I'd welcome it, if it were open debate, to be honest.

As the ever rambling climate threads in the News section demonstrate, it seems impossible for a thread about the subject to stay rational, objective and civil, with questions actually being answered directly.

And as I've said before, that applies to both "camps".

If so, it was very clever of them to have anticipated the debate, gone out and bought a sports car, and signed up to PH several years ago, like a deep cover agent. So, is turbobloke Sidney Poitier and Ludo River Phoenix?

Alcan shares are on the up anyway.

I was not referring to any specific poster. I am just wondering as some posts appear to be trotting out the exact same lies (sorry, lines) as those used by the CRU....

For the benefit of the more sensible, whom it is easier to find on here than most other places, here is a plain commercial summary of the position, courtesy of the Money Week editorial team -

"What’s the solution? To put it bluntly, just ignore it. It’s a political football. You have no hope of influencing, or making sense of a debate dominated by extremists and politicians. And the good news is that you don’t have to. The real issue here is pretty simple. It’s all about energy efficiency.

Regardless of whether your aim is to cut carbon emissions, or reduce the use of oil, the key is to make more efficient use of the limited resources we have. And making the case for efficiency should be an incredibly easy sell. So easy in fact, that it’s hard to understand why climate change campaigners don’t make it a more prominent part of their arguments.

Let me see – a world where our country is no longer beholden to the Gulf for its oil, or to Russia for its gas? I’ll vote for that. A world where our power grids are able to make use of a far larger proportion of the energy generated, where we can see and control how much we spend on heating and lighting our homes more easily? A world where there’s more genuine competition between energy providers, and in the long run, lower prices for consumers? I’ll vote for that too. "

Precisely so, and the less credibility given to either extremists or bullstting politicians, the better. Bullstting politicians remember have given us Soviet Russia, Nazi Germany and, er, the Iran/ Afghan war, largely in the last case for their own profit. Shoot them, not us. silly

Another apt (imho) quote:-

"It’s easy to see why people get frustrated by the climate change debate. On the one hand, we’re hectored in government advertising campaigns (which we paid for) that we should be turning off the standby button on our telly, or we’ll kill a polar bear. But then the government can just wave through a dirty great extra runway onto one of the world’s busiest airports, and somehow fudge the figures so that it’s effectively carbon neutral."

And of course fly off en masse to Copenhagen for a no luxury spared junket at our expense. What utter crap! Be done with them.

So now they have control of the BBC, the government, the scientists, NASA, the met office... and now they've potentially infiltrated pistonheads!

I should point out that the reason climate change topics descend into anarchy is because most posters rely on nothing but blind prejudice and fail to the most basic research before spouting out what a load of bks it all is.

There's precious little impartiality or willingness to be disproved on these forums.

I bloody enviroMentalists....

I was on a plane last week, flying back to London. Its a 2800 mile trip and takes over 4 hours. Anyway, woman sat just behind me was a little odd. The conversation with the air stewardess went like this:

Air stewardess - Would you like the vegetable lasagne or the beef?
Passenger - Has the vegetables been sourced locally, I am an environmentalist you know.
Air stewardess - I don't know, we just buy them in from the catering company at the airport
Passenger - Well, you need to be careful with these things you know.

Oh for Christs sake - YOU ARE ON A PLANE FLYING FOR 2800 MILES AND YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT LOCALLY PRODUCED VEG. Bloody moron.

And that, ladies and gentlemen is the calibre of moron we have to save the world!

I know a few people like that.

Seems to me that an individuals CO2 emissions are pathetic in comparison to industry. According to a close friend an industrial plant that carries out the Haber process produces more CO2 in one day than Liverpool does in one year.

I don't have a problem with efficiency drives but the lengths some people go to seem ridiculous. We're all going to have some impact on our environment afterall.

I agree with you on the point you have made. But the campaign should be with regard to bringing in more efficiency in 'Energy and natural resources consumption'....not saving the fking polar bears who have been breeding happily and increased in population by 500% in the last 2 decades!
Efficiency can be stimulated by tax breaks for low consumption targets etc on an industrial level instead of taxation to feed the welfare state under the pretext of saving my grand kids from the rising sea!
(eg. give tax breaks for airlines who consume less than X litres/airmile. This will stimulate industrial output in low fuel consumption with high performance engines and aircraft design. This will bring down reliance on the arab oil.)

So many innovative things to do and support for the common goal of better human consumption of resources...instead we are being fed lies, taxed, and ridiculed for enjoying life as we want to. El Gordo, Barack bin Obama and the rest of you clowns enjoying free sex in nohopenhagen...Burn in hell!

Because I haven't seen anyone posting in the threads that seems to be from the CRU. There's only about 5 'pro CRU' posters.
