sorry but that is
how to ruin a classic shape
I wonder how much weight they added to strengthen the chassis (if they bothered!)
But it's exactly the same shape...just missing a bit!

it would have looked like this originally

Aaah...bit of a dilemma this "LP400"....now i would like it in my garage but it is a bitsa....no problem with the vendor "talking it up" but the Rod Stewart connection is perhaps meaningless unless to a die hard Rod S fan but to collectors it is of little consequence value wise...now if it was ex Feruccio or Bob or valentino or a really cool petrolhead it would be different...the value here is becasue its a LP400, but been butchered with parts missing and tacky add-ons....its the lambo equivilent of a lowered Citroen Saxo with blue underbody lights, windows open, seats raked back and rapp blaring from a masssive speaker cut in the rear panel....the look is uncomfortable and there is a lot wrong and incidentally, the outside mirrors look Ferrari 308 to me and are ugly....BUT it is interesting and if only it could be taken back to LP400 but in disagreement with the vendors, this may be possible, but i would think really really difficult....some LP400's were at-sale/post-sale converted to LP400s spec/look at customers request by the factory which now seems a mistake but understandable at the time ...i think if i owned this car i would keep the convertable roof( massive job i would think to change) and try revert the body work to LP400 ..redo arches, rims and tyres, black front bumper, change mirrors and side repeaters and no doubt many other odds and sods....to cut the roof off an LP400 now would be sacrilege but to bring this back to a roofless LP400 would be a project with some merit methinks
I think the mixed views (at best) on this one are quite interesting. I agree that the wing mirrors are awful (very 911) and the smooth blends around the wheel arch extension are 'different'
and that the unmolested LP400 base vehicle a thing of beautiful purity in its own right. However I think the open top is well exectued and well resolved. As a standard factory job was not available at the time and someone clearly had the money to do it - then why not? Without the benefit of forseight it was an obvious thing to do at the time. Regarding the bodywork add-ons which make the car look like an 400S, again I think this was an obvious modification that someone was liable to carry out in order to make their roofless creation as current looking as possible. Many people have fitted LP560 bumpers to Gallardos and LP640 bumpers, tail lights etc to Murcielagos. Clearly those modifications are much more sublte but the same principle applies. I wonder if such modifications to recent Lamborghini models wil be looked upon unfavourably in the future?
