I sent off for a renewal passport on November 30. I've just received my new passport today. I'd heard in the media that the passport office staff were being 'farmed out' to other government agencies as their workload had dried up due to the so called recession. I think a charge of £35 for a 'fast-track' application is a bit steep when then turned mine around in 8 days (I didn't opt for the fast-track by the way). I wonder do they refund the levy of £35 if they process an application as fast as mine?

The last time I did the renewal I popped it into the post office paid the express fee on the wednesday and on the friday the wifes came and on the saturday mine turned up.

I would expect the express fee is for that reason as 8 days used to be the normal turn around years ago.
