Hi,

As the title says, I have just got a set of brightplates fitted to my VXR8 and I think they look pretty good as anything that makes you more visible in the dark is a bonus!

I know some won't like them, but for us they are just another thing to turn heads.

I just need to get some different bulbs sorted for the front lights now.

A few pictures to give you an idea but do look better in 'the flesh' so to speak.

I don't like them one bit if they were going on my pride & joy.

However i understand why you have put them on, and i think it will work very well. People will certainly look, which in turn hopefully they will read. Well done for having the baws to put them on and even a couple of phone calls will make it all worth while.

What he said - surprised the front one's legal, it's awfully bright.

Hi,

Sorry been out for a run in car with wife and just back in.

The plates are from £139.99 fitted for the pair and the place I got them was Audiowise in East Kilbride who I believe are sole Scottish supplier.

It may cost me an extra £10 or £20 as I am getting both cars done and the VXR8s require the front bumper built out behind the plate to keep the plate as flat as possible.

They are sold as totally road legal and they conform to BS standard when unlit and the Brightplates site states they do not contravene any regulations.

The LED lights are built into the actual plate, so it is the reflection rather than the LED bulb that is seen through the plastic.

Actually quite surprised about how good they look on the back, donno if i would stick the front on but i can see if you are thinking of the safety aspect why you would ye. As i said i would really think about doing the rear plate though...

Oh.. why not..? Look at the car and the advertising which is on it. Anything extra which draws attention to the car is a bonus from a business perspective, would you not agree??

Anyway, the car has been out in a few of the last Scottish P/Head runs and the ownwer is sound. He has not put the plates on because he's a c#ck. If you're going to criticise you should expand or shut up. No wonder your brain hurts with 50,000 posts in less than 7 years.

Hi,

It's ok and no comments offend me or what we are doing.

Everyone will have their own opinion about everything in life, whether it's we shouldn't do what we do to the cars or we shouldn't teach youngsters to drive from age 12!

Experience tells me the cars are the biggest advert, and you are right, anything that makes them more noticeable is a bonus.

Being a bit different has paid us dividends and I know there are not too many businesses never mind driving schools in the current climate who are expanding.

(and the cars are great fun to drive and it is quite funny when you see peoples' reactions!!)

Cheers, Brian

Was it a bit of a job to wire them in or are they just plug and play?

Hi,

Think the wiring was straight forward but was a bit more difficult to fit the front one, as the VXR8 has quite a curve and a recess on the front bumper, so it had to be built out slightly behind the plate as the number plate is not quite as flexible as a standard plate and with the LEDs on the side edges of the plates you want it as flat as you can.

Would not have it myself as I am in enough trouble with the BiB so don't want to advertise my plate laugh but I think it works fine as a advertising tool.

As you say the car is what gets noticed at the end of the day.

Cheers

No, you can't see the advertising in the dark and your eye is drawn to the light, nothing else.

By coincidence, I saw one of these things coming the other way this morning, before dawn, over the moors.

I have no idea why, but I found it uncomfortable to the eye. Might have been something to do with the vehicle type, I can't even say I noticed what it was.

I must eat more carrots than you, because i can see "on board training" in 4 out of the 5 pictures. No harm in getting your eyes checked over.

The car you saw coming over the moors in the dark might have been a totally different car, since you say you didn't even notice what it was. Again could be the eye sight problem. Hope everything turn out to be ok with the eyes, best regards kmm.

Good luck with the new number plates Brian, i think they will work just fine.

Sorry, old son, where did I refer to the photographs? I said you won't see any advertising on such a vehicle that shares the same road space as you.

Sorry, old son, where did I say the car I saw was the same car? Read my post again, the clue is in "didn't even notice what it was".

PS...Keep trying with the formatting, you'll get it eventually...hehe

Despite what the packet says, I dont think they are legal as any alteration to a standard number plate is illegal. I imagine they do look better in the flesh although my opinion is that the registration plate is not something that requires showing off. Cool idea but not for me.
