Looks pretty nice to me, but I've never heard of Mendiz before. For 2500Euro I would expecting at least some XTR, especially on a hardtail... Also not quite sure why the picture has Fox forks, when all of the options seem to be for Marzocchi...?

Where are you getting it from and exactly what is the exact spec? The model showed also has Mavic SLRs but the only spec that I can find at 2,500E has Crossrides. There is also a model at 2,490E

Have you any idea how much XTR is these days?

Frame graphics look just like a Merida to me, id see whether its a re-badged merida for a certain market.

Merida being pretty much the biggest manufacturer out ther, who do indeed build frame for Specialized among countless others.

£40 for a rear XT mech, £60 for an XTR rear mech... Not a huge diff?

M970 XTR derrailliuer is £100 rrp.

M970 Chainset is over £400 retail price, around doulbe that of M770.

M970 Groupset price is about double that of M770.

It is a BIG difference.

At the moment it's just a thought as it does seem like a clone bike.I would get it from la Cyclerie in Toulouse,my other current fave is a 09 Cannondale Flash carbon 3 which I'll buy locally(St Giron)

Okay, regardless, if I was spending that amount of money on a hardtail I would expect some XTR. Yes I am component we. Yes I know it makes little difference to the actual performance.

looks really nice, love the swoopy top tube, no idea what marzochi forks are like these days (only remember the gold ones with holes in the lower legs!!) but wouldnt choose them over fox or rebas at the moment. can you get a good deal on a focus on the continent (i think they are german arent they?) the raven pro looks like a similar spec?

Focus was on my original list as well as Specialized.Mendiz and Focus are both sold by the shop in Toulouse. The Focus Raven pro is mostley XT and about £2500 so roughley 3000Euro ish.My problem is I do so much research, read so many reviews and articles that I just end up not knowing what the bloody hell I want,I think I'll let the kids decide which is the nicest colour and go from there.

Unfortunately a lot of manufacturers put on a token bit of XTR / X.0 (usually a rear mech) so that people look and get shiny syndrome. I say unfortunately because the stuff is specific to the OEM market (bike makers) and can be significantly different to the after market kit.

A good example being that OEM SRAM X.0 rear mechs often have an alloy cage with a carbon effect sticker rather than the proper carbon one. Manufacturers can say "We want 10,000 bits at [low price]" and the bits are downgraded to budget.

This is why people like Merlin are very cheap but the bits come in bags not boxes. The stuff is OEM and may not be the same item as at say Noah's who deal only in official aftermarket parts.

Other examples are different steerer tubes on forks.
