hi all , my wife crashed my Leon FR150 yesterday had the car from almost new as ex demo took me ages to find leather seat fully loaded FR just finished paying for it too.

T boned by an X5 ! At 40 MPH.

Now its had the passenger side sill and door footwell area pushed in A & B pillar moved a bit , wing maybe bonnet , passenger seat air bag deployed maybe dash air bag deployed too, dash looks bent a little on passenger side, wheel is pushed back too so racks had it, front OS suspension does not look moved much but shocker could be bent.

inside engine compartment its not showing signs of damage, it drives still abeit wheels not in align.

Is it worth fixing ? Bummer is my insurance is part time trade so little money coming my way to fix it, I reckon it might have been worth (to me) 7 to 8 k, but I expect they will try to offer as little as 4 to 5 k.

I might consider buying the salvage if its possible, guy at my local body shop reckons 6 to 7 k to fix it tho.

He breaks it down as engine/gearbox out then on jig , buy second hand parts and it might be worth it but they are sure it will be written off by the insurance anyway q is can i buy it ? or do i even want too frown

Suppose I could take it home and remove the engine/gearbox and hope he could fix it within the money coming over to me from insurance (4k ish i suppose) , but might be easier with a shell (guess they dont sell shells anymore these days).

Ho Hum

I know from my sad past experience money from insurance its a night mare even with retail insurance to argue the value thats kind of why I justified going part time trader policy to save money as they never want to pay anyway.

I have other strange Australian and USA cars to keep costs down as I only buy and never sell much I am the worlds least successful car trader, guess i just let pertol rule my head for 30 years

but I figured save the money each year with cheap insurance and hope that I will be ahead in the long run even if I do have to loose sometimes.

but its hard to loose a nice one, if only she crashed the banger instead

Any suggestions experiences anyone ? Second hand parts or just walk away and forget the 3 to 4 k losses.

Firstly, be glad your missus is OK, sounds as if the car saved her, and lucky it wasn't on the drivers side!

Other than that, see what the valuations come out at, the usual don't accept the first offer, etc, etc.

Engine, Box and Electronics must have reasonable value.

Not a nice situation, but could have been a lot worse!

Whose fault was the accident?

If it was the Beemer's then just claim from their insurance, it will not affect your insurance.

Does part time trader insurance affect the value of the car?

If its worth £7-8k and you can provide proof then the insurance company should give you near that value after some haggling.
