Good XC Tyres for the Winter

I am currently running WTB Mutano's on my Voodoo they were good for the summer but they are rubbish in the winter. Can somebody recommend me a good tyre to deal with all the mud at the moment.

myself, along with at least 60% of people at coed y brenin last month, were using panaracer fire xc pro 2.1s..... i found them to be pretty good although in a moment of weakness i had the front the wrong way round which made it quite interesting.

the rest were using either the tyres the bike came with or cconti mountain kings...

I've just put Panaracer Trailrakers on. Skinny, nobbly things. Get through mud pretty well.

Conti Mountain Kings are a sure win, even the wire rim which are fairly light weight

I'm currently experimenting. I've just got a 2.35 maxxis minion dhf supertacky on the front and a high roller 60a on the rear. The high roller dealt with the mud and gloop on last nights ride quite well but the minion obviously had to be worked on the climbs. On the descents the minion came into it's own. Good tyres.

Just put mine on this morning and rode Llandegla. Had my summer Hutchinson Pythons on and have done since I built the bike. It felt so good today, Fire XCs are excellent.

Magazines don't rave about them though, which makes me think that other brands are more generous with the press.

That makes my current setup seem super-fast-rolling-whippet-esq!

2.35 High roller 60A front
2.25 Ardent on the rear

to quote the good man Roy Walker, 'its good but not quite right.' The balance front to rear is fine. The high roller does its stuff up ahead and the ardent rolls ok, its just not quite fast enough rolling to make it a sensible prospect on anything longer than a 2-3 hour loop. I do like this set up tho, had some nice wee drifts when pressing on

mind you, right now, 2-3 hours would equal all ive ridden in the last 2 months! (see other thread).

sometimes i wonder if for UK winter trail riding i should just stop buggering about with various maxxis/schwalbe/continental options and just get some panaracers and get on with it.....

I have run fire xc pros 2.1 all year round for 3 pairs of tyres now, only if it is really muddy do i swap them for trailrakers 1.9. Both always used to get excellent reviews
