..does it get deeper?

There will be more liquid in the bathtub - but will your body now displace less? I don't want to perform an experiment unless I absolutely have to, so please PH scientists, help put my mind at ease.

A less disgusting example might be phrased like this: A ship floating in a pond is carrying a cargo of water. If the ship dumps its cargo into the pond, does the water level rise?

I would say Yes. Your body does not lose volume only fluid your bladder decreases in size in your body. When you pee does your stomach suck in? So you will fill up the bath slightly more.

Edited to add: That is for the pee example, For the ship example you need to consider Boyancy, A ship will sit lower in the water if it is heavier whilst a person does not float.

My understanding would be your body volume wouldnt change, unless you have some weird protruding bladder...

So yes it would get deeper?

ETA: Boat isn't quite the same because as it gets lighter it has a smaller displacement, and so more of it would be out of the water (in your instance the cargo in the water would have an effect and you'd have to account cargo volume and weight)

To conclude: It depends on whether your object is the same size in volume. In the bath i'd assume yes, in the boat i'd assume no.

Hmm, I can see that your body volume would remain the same.

Imagine the bath was so deep that you were floating in it though. Then, would your body rise slightly - same volume but slightly lesser mass/weight - and compensate?

Less disgusting example - no, its displacement will match the volume of water it's carrying (plus the displacement for the ship to float)

In a similar way, if a towering iceberg melts, the sea level won't rise.

Interesting topic...

Another question...

How many of us would it take to pee in his bath to fill it, with him still in it?

It depends if your bladder is above or below the water pre-pee. If above, yes level rises, if below, level stays the same.

Usually I'd say below, so no change.

Essentially the Ice that is floating on the sea will not change sea levels as the water is still in the sea just in a differnt state, It is less dense but it melting does not change sea levels. Similar to Ice cubes in a drink doesn't make your drink spill over when they have melted. Eco mentalist are worried about the ice that is melting that sits on land. Which if that melted would flow into the sea technically increasing levels.

When you go for a number 2 do you think you lose that quantity from your external volume?

The answer is no.

So the level would rise.

You definitely lose mass with a number 2. Surely I'm not the only person who's tared on the bathroom scales before and after paperbag

That is good to know.

What I did say was volume. So your point is pretty useless.
