Wine recommendation
Discussion
From my limited experience Oddbins will sell you a nice bottle of white or rose for £10. Ask the guy behind the counter - I always find them to be very helpful. Most expensive bottles at Tesco or Marks etc should also work because for £10 in a supermarket you'll be buying a quality bottle. If Morrisons or Lidl sell a £10 white, I bet it's a cracker.
Perhaps as important as choosing a good label, you might want to find out how if your inlaws like sweet, medium or dry white wine. I had a v high quality pinot noir white in a restaurant this week but found it to be too heavy for my taste so the money spent was wasted on me.
I would avoid Threshers because I think they're rip-off merchants. Just my opinion.
One more thing: if the inlaws are from a wine producing country, go for their home country wine but do a bit of internet research to find a popular label. No matter how much I spent on a French wine, my Spanish inlaws would rather I poured it down the drain in front of them than accept it as a gift.

My advice?
Give one bottle. Pay £20. Buy from a wine merchant and simply ask for a recommendation.
If they are any good they will ask what sort of thing you like (or your in-laws like) or what they might eat with it.
Do you know what their Christmas meal will be? What their favourite food is? This stuff will help you get a bottle they'll talk about later.
There are some lovely, lovely New World wines at around £16.
