Mods, i cant really decide where this belongs!

Basically, i have bought something privately on a forum, exchanged details etc, and transferred money to his bank account. Last messeage was that payment has gone through and he was sorting out postage.

Then, the admin/owner of the forum decided he would completly close the forums. No warning, nothing. On one minute, gone the next. Apparently its been completely removed from the server and placed on digital storage.

Now, the seller cant get any of my details, nor me his. The only physical things i have are the message reciepts from the forum (although they do not display the message, just that one has arrived) and his bank account details.

I have contacted the bank, who are going to provide me with proof that the transaction took place, that i can present to his bank (nationwide).

However, im not sure what to do when speaking to the bank - its not going to be fraud if the seller cant access the website where my address and details are, but on the other hand im not going to be walking out of there with his address and contact details, am I?

Would like some advice please gents - and to save you the trouble, i am aware buying over the internet is stupid, i should have backed up details, and i dont have any pictures of my sister.

What was his username on the forum? Any name?

I bet you could easily track him down on the internets.

Right,

Go to his bank with his details.

Write a letter with your details in it and ask the bank to post it to him on your behalf.

No Data protection issues as you are not getting his address.

Of course you'd still rely on him contacting you to get you the goods.

There's no guarantee that the bank will help but if you explain the situation and infer that your only other recourse is to alert the police due to non delivery or some such or fraudulently obtaining money then they just may help.

Good luck

Thanks Freecar, had not thought of that. Will store that for future use.

Has said it was sent Saturday, so ill give to the end of the week for postage etc.

Ive been buying and selling on forums for years now, and tbh i broke a few of my golden rules on this transaction, but its a bit of a special situation with the forum.
