I've got the most stinking cough and sore throat and the only thing I've ever found is a good half hour in the steam room which helps. Is there anything that actually works to relieve the coughing OR aid up it's clearing?

Someone told me that half a bottle of Lamb's Navy Rum would clear up a cold.

It did, until the next day...

Lemsip Max Strength (esp. the ones you make with boiling water rather than just capsules) always work superbly for me, though I know some people for whom they have very little effect.

They seem to have a little extra 'something' which the competing brands (Beechams, Boots/Tesco own brand versions) don't have too.

I woke up on the morning of an all inclusive trip to the British GP one year with a stinking cold. You can take 2 lemsip flu plus tablets every 2 hours so 5am I had 2 7am I had another 2, that stopped the streaming nose at 10am the free bar opened along with the first bottle of Moet after 3 of those I stopped thinking about the cold. Worked a treat.

Posibly the most expensive cold remedy here.

Standad paracetamol rules apply, i.e. no more than four doses of 2x500mg per 24 hours. So chasing two sets down in 2 hours can leave quite a lot of day where you'll need to be medicine-free.

I personally cant think of anything that cures, it but something that helps is a throat spray, witha green lid (cant remember the name).
Codine for the cough.
& Sudafed nasal spray gets rid of the most un-bearable blocked up noses!

I used to be one of the managers of the "Tunes Cold Care Line" and can give the following advice. As you all know there is no cure but these tips should help:

Get plenty of vitamin C.

Drink Whiskey to kill all the bacteria in the back of your throat.

Gargle with warm salty water or mouth wash.

Keep Warm.

Eat chicken soup. It contains an amino acid called cysteine, which thins mucus and breaks up congestion.

Drink a lots of liquid, enough so that your urine turns clear, means your well hydrated.

Buy Tunes

Forget trying to cure it, and just concentrate your remaining energy on finalising your will.

These things are really good, you just pour them straight down your throat and they actually work (for me at least)

Then boil some water and stir in some honey and some lemon juice thumbup

similar here. as soon as i can feel one coming on i gargle tcp to kill the bacteria. if i leave it too late the cold still develops so that i feel muggy, but no throat problems.

a hot toddy is always welcome, cold or not.

You're going to have to go to a Pharmacy to get the best and strongest stuff.

While you're there, discuss it with a Pharmacist since they're fully qualified, and know what they're talking about...

Or just ask a bunch of strangers on the internet...
