A friend and son of friends of the family died this morning. He was out in Bristol last week and got hit at around 3AM. They thought he was stable at one point but he deteriorated overnight and was announced dead at 3AM this morning.

Not sure why I'm posting this, guess I just need to get it off of my chest.

Here's a link to the news story: http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/homepage/Bristol-hi...

Has anyone read the totally inappropriate, inane, lentalist comments below the actual story. Unbelievable.

A friend of mine's step son died suddenly on Sunday, only a few months after a heart transplant. Only a few days before I'd been having a beer with him as he talked excitedly about going back to work.

Poor sod was only 18, his dad shot himself when he was a baby, his mum died of an asthma attack and he only got to his teens before finding out his heart was f*cked.

There's never a good time to die, but FFS some people never seem to get a break.

I attended this on the night as duty investigator. A really nasty incident. From what I gather the driver may have handed himself in later the same day. Justice will be served, whatever that comes around to be. On a side note, the abuse I received for politely informing people the footbridge was closed due to a serious accident was shocking. RIP. Please accept my sincere sympathies.

Good luck to you, it must be a horrid job.

I'm not sure I think justice can ever be served once a life has been lost, even if you killed the person responsible its just two lives lost.

I think I can understand the sheer panic that would make someone run away, I'd hope I never kill anyone, and if I did, I hope I wouldn't run away, but I can imagine the terror that you'd feel.

If the driver handed himself in later, then at least he has some morals.

Sorry to hear this.

I'm 27 and most of my closest friends live around the Southville/Bedmi area so I know it well and it could easily have been someone I know, or indeed me.

Hope the driver gets what he deserves.

RIP frown

It's true, nothing can compensate for a life. It's extraordinarily difficult to sentence correctly, on all sides.

I wonder what he/she does deserve though.

The driver does seem to have done the right thing - in the end.

The behaviour of some people is disgusting at times. Still hasn't really hit home yet.
